Commissioner Dubois Speaks Up on Plate Collision Incident
After reviewing the questionable play that took place in the blowout game between Murrayfield & Grant and Barrington, Rene Dubois has decided to suspend Buzzard’s catcher Bubba Logan one game. “We like our boys to play hard,” said the still-faced commissioner, “but we expect them to play fair. Logan’s actions were both uncalled for and dangerous. He’ll sit his one game, and everyone will move on. End of story.”
The incident occurred when Vinnie Knox attempted to score from second on a single in the 7th inning of last Wednesday’s game. The Red Barons had already built a seemingly insurmountable 10-3 lead late in the game, and Logan appeared to take exception to Knox’s aggressive base-running play. After a strong throw had him beat at the plate, Knox was tagged hard by catcher Bubba Logan, knocking him on his side. As he began to get up, Logan delivered a swift kick to the head of the Red Barons center fielder.
Logan declined to comment on the incident, but the Barrington skipper Lou Carlin gave a few words. “I don’t condone that type of play, and I won’t make excuses. I could tell he was frustrated, the way we were losing so bad, and he let it get the best of him on that play. It’s unacceptable, and I’m sure he’s learned his lesson.”
Martin Wallace is expected to fill in for Logan behind the plate during tomorrow night’s contest against Lake Wampaug.
Knox’s exact condition is unknown, but sources indicate he is expected to remain in the lineup for the Red Barons next contest.

Americus Hammond stifled the Lake Wampaug Marauders late Friday night, allowing only one run through eight innings while striking out nine. Concord Parke scored early on opposing hurler Zachary Hulowitz, plating their first run on a Lee Loveland sacrifice fly in the first, followed by a two out RBI triple by Vic Popper in the second. The two-spot was all Hammond would need. He cruised through the Marauders lineup inning after inning, with a solo shot by Urban Koontz in the 7th being the only blemish of his evening. Otherwise only three Marauders reached as far as second base.
“I was nervous going in, this being my first game and all, but my stuff felt real good tonight. I knew I could make the tough pitches when I had to. Even the pitch to [Urban] Koontz was a pretty dang good one, he just put a real good swing on it and just lifted it past the left field wall.”
The Marauders now find themselves in an 0-2 hole, with a tough schedule ahead.
“We need to score more runs, it’s as simple as that,” stated a frustrated George Gutierrez. “Hulowitz deserved better, he deserved to win tonight.”
The young fireballer finds himself winless through two starts despite posting a 2.64 ERA. The Marauders have scored only four runs in support so far this season.
Greenwood Robins 14, Dorchester Heights 13
Greenwood’s unbelievable ninth inning rally capped a wild one at the Athletic Club Thursday evening, as the Robins picked up their first victory of the season, edging out Dorchester Heights 14-13.
Corwin Little started things off with a homer in the top of the second to put Greenwood ahead 2-0. Later that inning, Tex Titus got a piece for a home run of his own to lead 3-0. A poor play by the Robins defense on a Pollard double put Dorchester on the board in the bottom of the inning. With Greenwood leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Dorchester advanced. After throwing two walks, giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, and one error, Webb Slater stepped in with two outs and the bases loaded. A low and away slider on 2-1 was tagged by Slater for his fourth homerun of the season, as the Athletic Club took the 8-4 lead.
Corwin Little homered again in the fifth and Tex Titus again in the sixth, but they were no match for the streaking Atheltic with homeruns by Erasmus Burke and pitcher Junior Chamberlin. A Pickering homerun in the eighth put the game Dorchester 13, Greenwood 8 after eight innings. It was up to Junior Chamberlin to close out the game in the ninth.
Beck led off the top of the ninth with a single, and Little followed with a single of his own. On a tense six pitch outing, Palmer walked to load the bases. Jeremetrius Burnside began to warm up for the Heights, as Junior Chamberlin sent a startled bullpen coach away and insisted to finish out the game. With no outs and the bases loaded, Tex Titus drove a single to left, scoring two. 13-10.
Chamberlin looked to be back in control after striking out Boofer, who was pinch hitting for pitcher Peewee Frostbury. Chamberlin then loaded the bases with a walk to Fred Flint. With the leading run at the plate Pickering drove a frozen rope to left-center as Palmer crossed the plate.
13-11, no outs. Fump steps in, and hits an infield chopper which is played to home for the force. Scooter de la Mare steps in, only to be Chamberlin’s third walk of the inning, this time scoring Tex Titus.
That had been enough, as Jeremetrius Burnside made his way to the mound, with a two run lead to face Beck, who was then substituted for M.F. Beuchamp. With the leading run on second, Beuchamp smacked one to center, scoring a winded Flint and Pickering. Greenwood took the remarkable 14-13 lead. Corwin Little hit a dribbler to third to end the Robins attack.
And so it came to the bottom of the ninth, as a stunned Dorchester Athletic faced a warmed up Luigi Ryle. Jeremetrius Burnside struck out to lead off the ninth. AJ Astor smacked a single to left, but it wasn’t enough as Bouchier and Nuniez popped out to end the game in front of a shocked Althetic crowd.

Touted Prospect Ambrose Spackles (0-2) took his second loss of the season over seven innings in the outing. Murrayfield & Grant will head out on the road for a three game tour including games against Auburn Station, Essex, and Concord Park.
Collision at Home Plate Leaves M&G Star In Hospital.
Sources close to the Red Barons confirmed rumors earlier today that Vincent Knox suffered a mild concussion in a collision at home plate during Wednesday’s game at the Commons in Upper Murrayfield. The Red Barons Loyal have been pressing on Commissioner Rene DuBois to suspend Barrington catcher Oliver Smoot for the play, as Smoot jammed his cleat into the head of a clearly out Knox. DuBois has stated he will wait to see how Knox recovers before issuing further penalty.
